Role Model?

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "Green".  I recently read a magazine article about the pressures on young girls to conform to the images in fashion magazines and I had that very much in mind when I was creating this piece.  I know it's a bit "out there" and confrontational, but so is the issue so I thought it was appropriate!

I started with a manilla tag (I know I keep saying this, but they're great for stamping on, you should go get some.  Now!)  I inked the background with Shabby Shutters distress ink and stamped the large dots from the Mixed Media stamp set in Pine Needles distress ink.  The text from the World Traveler set was stamped with black Versafine in the top corner and the skyline from the Rock Star set was stamped along the bottom (not that you can really see it under the Role Model text).

I added a couple of strips of packing tape that I'd transfer printed from my GelliArts printing plate across the centre of the tag and then I used Versamark clear ink to stamp the skulls onto black card and embossed them with white powder, cut them out and applied them to the tag.

I stamped the skull on white card and then cut out the eye sockets, replacing them with eyes from the Classics #5 stamp set - don't they fit perfectly?  The hair is actually David's hair from the Artful Artifacts set (a bit of clever repurposing, if I say so myself!).  The lips are Wendy Vecchi's Kiss Me stamp.

I fixed the whole tag to white card and cut it out so there was a white border around the edge, which I then doodled on.  Finally, the lettering was taken from the subway sign on Tim's Remnants stamp set.

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)

Don't forget, Simon Says Stamp have a great Facebook page too!  Check them out here!

Dan...what an insightful piece. Love it. I am always amazed at how you can take one of Tim's stamps and completely transform it into something else...and always with bold color. Love it! <3 Candy

This is a thought provoking tag Dan, which is one of the things good art should do (get us thinking). It reminds me to encourage free thinking in my young grandchildren. Thanks for inspiring me with your beautiful art.

Can always count on you to come up with something very different, and this is no exception. I think you hit the heart of the issue.

Fabulous - I love the make, and the political statement behind it. I made a very angry Fashion ATC at one point - and skeletons were my choice too!!
