Fly my pretties...fly!

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "fly".  Isn't that a great theme?  So many possibilities for things you can do with it, no excuse for not having a try and you might win a prize!  I decided to combine several winged things into one card, adding wings to the silhouetted figure.

As I mentioned over on the challenge blog, those of you who visit my blog regularly will know that the winged man from the Winged Things 2 stamp set is one of my favourites.  Naturally, when I saw that the theme was "fly", that image popped straight into my head.  I thought that this time I'd give him a rest though, and used the boy from the same set instead.  He was stamped and coloured with Promarkers.

The background is the splatter background from Darkroom Door, stamped twice, once in Gathered Twigs and once in Fired Brick distress inks.  The cupid, on his first time out of the packaging, was stamped and then coloured with Aged Mahogany distress stain, then cut out.

The silhouette figure was stamped and cut out, then the heart was hand drawn with a Ruby promarker and edged with a white pen.  The wings were stamped and embossed with white powder then edged with a black promarker.  I used the same Ruby promarker to colour over the top of the white embossing powder.  I'm stoked to have stumbled across this technique (hey, I'm a slow learner, ok?), it basically means I effectively now have scores of colours of embossing powder, limited only by the range of promarkers I own!

It doesn't show up too well in the photos, but the figures are mounted on 3d foam at different heights for extra interest.

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)
Don't forget, Simon Says Stamp have a great Facebook page too!  Check them out here!

Dan...your piece is very cool. I love the wings things that you've incorporated onto your "Fly My Pretties" piece. I love that title as I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan. haha That winged boy is awesome. I also love the Dina Wakley silhouette stamp you've given wings to. Very clever. And Cupid...who could forget Cupid?! Great piece! <3 Candy

Love this... it sets the imagination soaring (which is the best kind of flying!). The winged silhouette has such power, and I love that winged child image, so you had me from the start!
