A little bit of lace

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "Lace/Doily".  I thought about hunting down some lace to use for this project, but let's face it, it's not really in keeping with my usual style, so I put on my thinking cap and pondered on other ways I might meet the challenge.  I finally decided to use paper string to lace (geddit?) together the panels of this travel themed piece.

Some of the panels are from the Destinations paper stash and others were stamped with images from the Road Trip and Remnants stamp sets.  All images were coloured with Promarkers and the holes were all punched perfectly at the same depth by courtesy of the Crop-a-dile!

Something Old, Something....Old!

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "Embrace the old!".  I have a friend who is travelling to New York to see some Broadway shows on her birthday soon, so I decided to combine those two elements into a card for her.  The old tickets and old travel ads were perfect for this week's theme!

I started with a section cut from the Destinations paper stash and used Promarkers to colour the headings at the top of the page.  I used some gesso to lighten a section so that the "enjoy the journey" stamp would show more boldly.

The theatre tickets were stamped and cut out, then coloured with Promarkers and arranged then fixed to the background.

She's going to have a wonderful trip, hopefully this card will be one of the souvenirs that will help her to remember it in the future!

Rust is the new black

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "rustification".  I took my inspiration from the rusty colours of autumn leaves.  I used scores of buttons in autumnal colours to recreate the feel of a carpet of leaves.  I had collected some real leaves to feature on the card, but after they had dried out they were a little smelly, too much so to use them!

I used a range of different patterned papers for the buttons and luckily the Martha Stewart buttons punch can cut out 5 at a time, which greatly speeded up the process!  The "thread" was created with a Walnut Stain Distress Marker.

The tickets were cut from Tattered Time card stock, and the stamps from Ali Edwards were the perfect size to fit nicely onto them.  The ribbon is a piece that has been kicking around in my craft room for a few years, it's very thick and is brown on one side, white on the other, with a brown and white edging.  I can't even remember where it came from, but it was perfect for this card.
