Soviet Circus

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge this week is "Anything Goes".  This is a real opportunity to let your imagination run wild and create whatever you feel like!  Enter the challenge and you could be the winner of a $50 voucher to shop at Simon Says Stamp.

On a trip to Australia last year I was browsing around a bookshop and stumbled across a collection of Soviet propaganda posters from days gone by and absolutely fell in love with it.  Needless to say, it found it's way into my luggage for the trip home!  This tag is very much inspired by that style, stark, graphically bold with almost a woodcut feel to it.  The new Tim Holtz Big Top stamps are a perfect fit for that style, so that's what I used as the focal point.

I stamped the bottom border, masked it off then stamped the elephant.  I masked him off and stamped the spots, rays and Cirque, then stamped the top border.  I love the two-colour style of it, almost like a hand printed poster from days of yore.  You know, like yesteryear :)

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)

Yay! I just ordered this set and now I have a great inspiration for it's use - I can see the Russian influence you created on this great tag!

I was a child during the Cold War and remember visiting my Grandparents, who lived in Peru, Indiana, which is the circus capital of the world. (Strange, but true!)
Long story short, your project really resonated with me this week.
I love the bold graphics.

I absolutely LOVE everything about this piece and as someone who adores this kind of poster art, you've captured the feel of the artwork perfectly...just wonderful! :)
