I thought I'd make a "just because" card today. I love "just because" cards, it's so much more freeing not to have to fit in with a particular theme or celebration, and you can just let your imagination run wild! :)
I practically threw the kitchen sink at this one - most of the elements have either been soaked, sanded or crumpled and ironed! Fun to do though :)
Most of the colouring was done with Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge distress ink pads, two of the newer recently-added colours. The calendar table at the bottom was stamped first, coloured, spritzed with water drops then dried. I then masked it off with a scrap of paper while I worked on the rest of the card. I thought it would be fun to mark it with today's date, as a reminder of when I made it. The photo is another from a sheet by Darkroom Door (not stamps, it's a sheet of vintage photos on cardstock that you cut out and use), which was crumpled, sanded and tinted. The vintage family portrait is a Tim Holtz stamp by Stampers Anonymous.
The upper section of the card was inked with the two colours of distress ink, crumpled, brushed lightly with the darker DI pad, spritzed with water and then ironed dry to flatten it out. The background was then stamped and the iron fence detail was enhanced with a white pen. After assembling the finished piece, I matted it onto a cocoa coloured panel and stuck it on the card.
As ever, click on the image if you want to see a larger view! :)

Oooh, I loooove this card and I think it would be just perfect as a moving in card for someone who is just about to move house..you know, as a welcome for them...to keep in their special Room of Stash...erm...mmm, who is moving house soon then??? ROFL Love this card Dan...not a single sign of a dishcloth or scrubbing brush either...kitchen sink...geddit??? Just me then ROFL X
Fabulous piece, Dan! I particularly love what you've done to that photo from DD... it really does look like it's been in someone's wallet for ages. Maybe you should do a "kitchen sink" tutorial for Gingersnaps, eh?? :) TFS
Amazing piece. I love the color palette and all of the elements.
Well this is lovely 'Just Because' it is!
Love Dawn xx
Great piece of art ! The distress effect is very evident ! Super !
Dan this is a super card...don't things work wonderfully when they are 'just because' LOL
I love the images you have used and the colours are so right for the overall effect.
Toni :o)
Stunning card Dan xx Don't listen to Hels I don't think it's a moving card, it's more of a birthday card for someone with a birthday in April ;-) xx
Great card, the calendar strip looks great and I love that vintage "booth" photo!
Love all the crumpling and inking - it looks great, I have just ordered some more distress/crackly bits so I will have to come back and have a good look when they arrive! Thanks for the inspiration
A beautiful card Dan ... and as you said ... "just because" So don't listen to Hels and Tina ... I mean you send a moving house card to someone who is moving soon and a Happy Birthday card to anyone with a Birthday in April ... where as you send a Just Because card to someone just because ... that will be me then :0)
Absolutely amazing, and a level of distressing I can only aspire to! ;oD
WOW...pure fun with this card. Love all the soaking, misting etc. that went into this.
Love all the images and textures on this!

and why would you listen to Hels, Linda or Tina its me who needs the card just because I have managed to spring clean 2 bedrooms fully and changed beds from room to room today, so I need it just because I am clever and you care about me ( I hope ) by the way back to the card in question its just a wonderful old looking card and you have shown us yet again just how creative you are x
*lol* I like it! 'Threw the kitchen sink at it' made me chuckle. Bet it was tonnes of fun to do. :) Hmmm... maybe I should add a scourer and spounge to my tools!
Your 'just because' appears to have started something now Dan... you may need to make a couple more of 'just because' you need to keep the peace!! LOL It's beautiful and I can see why everyone would want it... and I really think we should do more 'just because' stuff!!
like all the layers on this lots to look at
