The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "Buttons". I had recently watched a couple of movies with cabins in woods in them - Cabin in the Woods and Hansel and Gretel: Witchhunters and wanted to combine elements of both in this piece. I had the idea of decorating this house-shaped money box, including the additions of buttons as roof tiles, hoping to give a slight feel of the house made of candy from Hansel and Gretel. Needless to say, the buttons were far too thick and weren't at all suitable, but thankfully I had my Martha Stewart buttons punch nearby, so the project was rescued! :) The punched cardstock buttons work much better as shingles!
I punched (hundreds, or it felt like it!) of buttons from white and grey cardstock and then spritzed them with various Color Wash sprays and left them to dry. I used my ATG gun to run strips of adhesive across the roof and pressed the shingles into place. I topped it off with some "flashing" cut from a stamped image of Darkroom Door's Corrugated Iron stamp, coloured with Gathered Twigs distress ink.
I cut panels of white cardstock to cover the walls and stamped them with the Corrugated Iron stamp too, colouring them with Gathered Twigs and some weathered Distress Ink coloured applied with a water brush. The door was stamped with DD's Woodgrain background stamp and coloured in the same way. The door handle is actually a button brad, though you probably can't tell that in the photo! I finished it off with a number Plaquette.
The mouth and eye in the windows were taken from Tim Holtz's Classics #5 set and the window ledges were cut from the Woodgrain stamp.
Supplies I used included:
Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)
Don't forget, Simon Says Stamp have a great Facebook page too! Check them out here!

this cabin is a little spooky... and 100% awesome. Might just be one of my favorite Dan projects yet. Love it!
I had no idea a button punch existed! I love how you sprayed them with darker tones to create those wonderfully whimsical shingles! The dark room door stamps are the perfect "siding" for this charming house. Is it Alice peeking through the window? The Big Bad wolf? It really doesn't matter all I know is that this project rocks HARD!
