A bit of fooling around for April Fool's Day!

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge this week is "No Rules".  What better day to fool around with some new stash than April Fool's Day, right?  I love "no rules" challenges, it's a chance to sit down and just let your mind wander with no set destination and see where the journey takes you.  It appears that my journey took me to a victorian theatre, at least that's what it looks like to me!  It wasn't intentional, but I think those newsprint scallops look a little like theatre seats and that border strip on the left hand side could just about be the edge of a stage curtain.  You don't think so?  Come on folks, work with me here!  Well, I see it (stamps foot), so there :)

I started out by misting my background with water and then applied splats of distress stain in a few colours.  After drying it I inked up the whole sheet from the Kaisercraft grungy alphabet and applied it as a background stamp.  The Tim Holtz distressed alphabet was inked in the same way and applied to a sheet of white-core craft card which I tore and fixed to my background.  The border strip was cut from part of the Around the Edge stamp set, which I coloured (highlighting parts with a white pen) and fixed in place.

The natty victorian chap was stamped, coloured and cut out, then fixed in place.  I coloured some card with distress stains and then stamped the scallops on top and cut them out, fixing them to my card.  I gave the "seats" and the man a faint grey border to make them pop a little using a promarker.

Finally the whole piece was mounted on black card then onto a white card blank.  As I look at it now, his eyes seem to follow me around the room, and he doesn't look too happy.  If I find out what the problem is, I'll be sure to let you know! :)

Oh, and happy Easter everyone! :)

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)
Don't forget, Simon Says Stamp have a great Facebook page too!  Check them out here!

Great piece Dan, love the newsprint scallops and you are right it does look like a theatre and your gent looks perfect, another stamp on my wish list. I can see you giving him some alternative disguises in the near future lol. Tracy x

Dan...I love your piece! I have that stamp and now I'm going to have to use it to see if that guy's eyes follow me around, too. haha I love all of your text and letters that you've used on this. The scalloped colored and layered edges really are cool. You did an awesome job of coloring your "voyeur". haha Very neat piece! <3 Candy

Dang! I do like that natty gent and the other guy on the set. You are bad for my bank balance :) The project is, as ever, just fab. Somewhere I have a Victorian theatre book, so you can cut out the pages and assemble your own - pretty sure it is Edward Gorrey who did the illustrations. Lord knows where it is but this made me want t tear apart the house to find it. with my luck it's back in the storage unit in Virgina DOH!

You are to be congratulated Dan, his works are always great fun.
The stamps are Tim's fantastic, I love this steampunk style. I will definitely buy the stamp Stampers Anonymous.

Love those texty wavy borders at the bottom, and so happy to see someone else loving the Grunge alphabet - I think it's so cool!! The stern time traveller is growing on me every time I see him...
