Die-ing to be Chic!

The theme over on the Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge is "Shabby Chic" - not a style that I have a natural affinity with, but a challenge blog is all about the challenge, right? and I'm up for it! :)

I decided to go with the hallmark pinks and browns of this style, and once I'd made that choice the whole thing simplified itself in my head and I could start to see more clearly what I might do.  I decided to make a birthday card for a close friend of mine (she recieved it a couple of weeks back and says she loves it, phew!).

Although I have owned a Cuttlebug for quite a few years, I have only ever used it for embossing and I have never even owned a cutting die of any kind.  So far I have preferred to design my own cutting files and cut them on the Cricut using my computer, so when I was invited by Simon Says Stamp to check out some of their signature die designs I admit I was intrigued to have a play with them.  Suffice to say, I'm now a convert!

The "forever my friend" label is from a combined stamps/dies apothecary label set and the bunting in the background is a banner die from SSS.  Obviously I can't compare these dies to those from other manufacturers as these are the first I've used, but these were just so easy to use and gave such crisp, clean cuts that I will be starting a collection!  Now that I've broken my die "duck" I daresay that a few Tim Holtz dies may also find their way into my shopping basket :)  Now all I need to do is track down some longer cutting plates for my Cuttlebug!

Supplies I used included:

Our ever-generous sponsor Simon Says Stamp is offering a $50 gift voucher as the prize again this week, just make something for the challenge and you could the winner! The winner will be chosen at random from those who enter the challenge, so why not give it a try? At the very least why not head over to the Challenge Blog to see how the other members of the design team have interpreted this weeks theme! :)

Don't forget, Simon Says Stamp have a great Facebook page too!  Check them out here!

I must admit, I am not a great fan of die cuts, but when I saw your card, I need to try these more. Thanks for the inspiration!
