Things with Wings...

... is the theme of the first ever Simon Says Stamp and Show Challenge. Sponsored by Simon Says Stamp, there's also a fantastic prize on offer to one lucky entrant this week, which includes one of Tim Holtz's new stamp sets, some Distress Ink pads, a Tiny Attacher and other wonderful goodies! The whole prize is pictured below:

All you have to do for a chance to win is enter this week's challenge - make something that fits with the theme "Things with Wings"! Why not go over to the challenge blog for some inspiration and see the different ways in which the design team have interpreted the theme? Here is my entry (click on the image for a larger view):
This clown's head is one of my favourite Tim Holtz stamps, and I've had the idea for this piece kicking around in my head for some time now. Thankfully the theme of "Things with Wings" has allowed me to get it out of my system! :)

The outlines of all the body parts and wings were drawn on the computer and then cut out on the Cricut using the Sure Cuts a Lot program. Barn Door, Peeled Paint, Dusty Concord and Old Paper Distress Ink pads were used for colouring, either direct to paper or with a water brush. All stamping used a Momento Tuxedo Black ink pad, and most of the stamps were by Tim Holtz at Stampers Anonymous, particularly these sets: Tiny Textures, The Big Top and Spills and Splatters.

Comments welcomed, as ever, and don't forget to enter the challenge yourself! :)

Glad you are getting settled in your new place. This clown looks like a cross between batman and the joker. Is he a crime-fighter? or a super-villain? Either way, great job as always. Congrats on getting onto another design team...you deserve it.

I am totally digging this project. I started out as a mixed media, then altered artist, and now paper piecer (that's what having kids will do to you-lol).
I so hope you win this challenge!

So nice to see you back in blogland Dan... I was on facebook earlier and saw your piece and new it was yours before I actually saw your name further down!!

I'm not keen on clowns, but I think yours is TOTALLY AMAZING. When I saw it the other day, it took me awhile to figure out how you did all the pieces. I had no idea you drew the wings/body on the computer and used Cricut to create it. That is so far out of my realm of experience - my guess was that you drew it freehand. Anyway, this is a very cool piece of art! I'm VERY impressed.

Dan, that is an amazing piece!!! But, that flippin clown is wicked scary!! I hate the face, he creeps me out. But, you make him look "good"!! So, did it feel good to be back in action??? I am away from my toys right now too, as well as my home computer. I am visiting my parents in hot Florida right now. Hugs, Rockin Robin

You're back and in grand style Dan! Nicely done... though I have to say he's got a bit of an angry face. I'm not normally scared of clowns but I might be afraid of this one. :(

Great piece of work but just reinforces my belief that clowns are something to be afraid of. LOL Trish:)

Love that - you still have time to post it on the Stampotique Wings, wings, wings challenge too, as this week it can be any stamps. I never realized you could add the same project to a number of challenge blogs but people do. I'd pick this as one of my favourites for sure. He looks so...evil! :)

Mary Anne

PS I'm sure there is a group called The Evil Clown Posse - or is that just in my head?
